CITY OF PHOENIX TO SWEAR IN LETICIA GOMEZ AS NEW

DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION
PHOENIX, Ariz.- The public is invited to attend a ceremony for Leticia Gomez to be
sworn in as the new Director of Parks and Recreation at their newest center: Vista del Sol, 2275
E. McDowell Road on October 11th, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
The ceremony will include speeches from Mayor Greg Stanton, and the former Director
of Parks and Recreation: Spencer Trimbley. Following their introductions, Gomez will take her
oath of office and commence her role as the new Director.
Gomez is a graduate of Arizona State University, where she earned both her bachelors
and masters degrees in Recreation and Tourism studies. She began working for the department
as a college intern in the summer of 2003, and since then has played a large role in making sure
both high school and college students have the opportunity to intern at city Parks and Recreation
locations.
Her service within the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department totals 12 years,
serving as general program coordinator for 5 years, then advancing to the position of deputy
director under Spencer Trimbley for 7 years.
When asked about his faith in her potential performance as director, Spencer Trimbley,
who served as director for 35 years, said, I cant imagine a more qualified and dedicated city
employee than Leticia Gomez. I know Im leaving the department in excellent hands.
Her support also extends to the citys highest office, according to Mayor Greg Stanton,
Few people are as qualified to lead our parks and recreation programs in the 21st century as
