Pros:
a)
b)
c)
d)

Work regardless of wind direction.

Thin and lightweight components.
Braking system if winds are to fast.
Most efficient since wind speed usually increases with height.

a)
b)
c)
d)

Massive structures.
Disrupts appearance of landscape area.
Blades can disruptce land-based ecosystems.
Cost more than VAWTs by hundreds or even thousands of dollars
more.

Cons:

Vertical Axis Wind Turbines

Pros:
a)
b)
c)
d)
e)

Can be built close to ground.

May be built where tall structures prohibited.
Lower start up winds.
Do not need to be pointed into wind.
Lesser cost than HAWTs.

Cons:
a) Decrease level of efficiency when compared to HAWTs.
b) Cannot take advantage of higher winds speed at higher elevations.
c) Not usually designed for high speed winds.
d) Some designs stall with chaotic wind speeds.
