INTRODUCTION

Philippines health care crisis, coupled with current demographic changes, threaten to not
only exacerbate the crisis, but further decrease the productivity level of the individual as well.
With these problems in the healthcare issue signals a favorable opportunity for Saint Peregrine
Oncology and Wellness Center that caters Tuguegarao City and nearby towns. Living to its
tagline, youre home away from home,
My business is based on two simple facts:
1.

Home care is professional health care and supportive services provided at home for

2.

patients who need help with medical needs or daily tasks.

Home care services are often provided by home health aides, personal attendants or
companions who may be volunteer or receive payments from the patients or family.

At Saint Peregrine Oncology Wellness Center, we tie productivity directly to the health care
issue. We believe that traditional approaches to the current health care crisis are misdirected.
These traditional efforts are what we call reactive that is, they wait until they have been stricken
with illness or injury, and as a result they pay higher cost for the necessary treatments. Our
approach, which emphasizes prevention and good health promotion, is much more proactive.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

INDUSTRY ANALYSIS
Advanced cancer is cancer that cannot be cured. It may be referred to as end-stage
or terminal cancer. However, incurable does not mean untreatable. People with advanced
cancer continue to have options for treatment and can maintain a good quality of life.

A diagnosis of advanced cancer is usually difficult for you and your family. It may
be hard to believe the diagnosis. Or, it may cause anxiety and uncertainty. However, even
if treatment is no longer able to cure or stop the growth of your cancer, you still have
choices for care. Treatment for advanced cancer includes slowing tumor growth and
managing pain and other symptoms of cancer and cancer treatment.

At this time, it is helpful to talk with us your cancer care team to help, serve and
understand your treatment options and goals of treatment. It is also important to ask for
care that meets the physical, emotional, spiritual, and practical needs and to know that
you will continue to receive care and emotional support throughout the illness. Your
cancer care team may now include experts in hospice and palliative care to help with
these needs.

Cancer cases worldwide are predicted to increase by 70% over the next two
decades, from 14 million in 2012 to 25 million new cases a year, according to the World
Health Organization. The latest World Cancer Report says it is implausible to think we
can treat our way out of the disease and that the focus must now be on preventing new
cases. Even the richest countries will struggle to cope with the spiraling costs of
4

treatment and care for patients, and the lower income countries, where numbers are
expected to be highest, are ill-equipped for the burden to come.
In 2012, there were 14.1 million new cancer cases and 8.2 million new cancer
deaths. The World Health Organization (WHO) projected that by 2035, these figures
could increase to 24 million new cases and 14.6 million cancer deaths worldwide. The
majority of the global cancer burden is shifting from the more developed world to
economically disadvantaged countries. Nearly 70 percent of cancer incidence will occur
in economically disadvantaged countries where survival rates are less than half of those
in developed countries.
For the past 3 years, the Cagayan Valley Medical Center, a tertiary hospital in
Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City has an average of 951 consultations for oncology cases. The
