sran017 Eoonomies Paper 2 Reluctant Econom It is extremely important that you know the answers to all the questions that have been asked in past 15-20 years’ papers. Papers before 2010 are not available online (or at least I couldn’t find them); a friend got me a booklet with papers from 1991 onwards from Delhi (Jawahar Book Shop in Ber Sarai, I think). Many questions are repeated in this paper; also, even after preparing the syllabus point by point, I could only identify gaps in my preparation once I started going through past year papers. Economic Survey document is a must read. People focus more on Volume 1, and that is justified as far as GS 3 is concerned. However, for this paper, you must go through Volume 2 as well. It looks intimidating, but once you distill the useful information contained in it, you'll find that there’s a wealth of statistics that you can add in a number of your answers. See here for chapter-wise important stats from Volume 2 that I tried to remember (I don’t have notes for Volume 1). In any case, the reading list (where I can remember what I read) and notes are below: 1. Indian Economy in Pre-Independence Era:Land System and its changes, Commercialization of agriculture, Drain theory, Laissez faire theory and critique. ‘Manufacture and Transport: Jute, Cotton, Railways, Money and Credit ‘Tirthankar Roy’s “The Economic History of India: 1857-1947’ covers almost everything here. Read Chapter 2 (pages 37-52), Chapter 3 (Pages 90-95), Chapter 4, (Pages 128-136), Chapter 7 (Pages 186-200), Chapter 8 (Pages 225-231), Chapter 9 (Pages 238-242), and Chapter 10 (page numbers correspond to the Third Edition). See my topic-wise consolidated notes from Tirthankar Roy’s book here. also read and made notes from Irfan Habib’s ‘A People’s History of India- Indian Economy 1858-1914’. While this is a good book, Tirthankar Roy’s book is better for ipssireluctartocenamisiblog werdpress.comiocon-p2! 218
