AIDS
1. THE CAUSE
HIV or Human Immunodeficiency virus

2. TRANSMISSION
HIV can only be transmitted from an infected person to another through direct
contact of bodily fluids such as : blood, semen, vaginal secretions, breast milk.
3. IMPACTS ON HUMAN LIFE
The virus seeks and destroys a type of T lymphocyte (T cell) which are critical to
the immune system. Theyre responsible for warding off diseases and most
infections, including viral infections.
4. TREATMENT
Several drugs are now available to treat HIV infection. Some, including AZT,
interfere with the virus as it tries to copy itself inside the immune system cells.
Other drugs stop the virus maturing and leaving the cells. None of these drugs
cures HIV infection or AIDS, although when used in combination they can delay
the appearance of symptoms, perhaps indefinitely. However, not everyone in the
world infected with HIV can afford, or get access to, these drugs.

EBOLA
1. THE CAUSE
Known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, Ebola is a rare and deadly disease caused
by infection with one of the Ebola virus species.
2. TRANSMISSION
The Ebola virus is transmitted among humans through close and direct physical
contact with infected bodily fluids, the most infectious being blood, faeces and
vomit. The Ebola virus has also been detected in breast milk, urine and semen.
3. IMPACTS ON HUMAN LIFE
A fever greater than 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit, muscle pain, severe headache,
weakness, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
4. TREATMENT
Theres no cure for Ebola. Treatment includes an experimental serum that
destroys infected cells. Doctors manage the symptoms of Ebola with: fluids and
electrolytes, oxygen, blood pressure medication, blood transfusion and treatment
for other infections.
