Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is secreted by the choroid plexus of the lateral, thir

d, and fourth ventricles, as well as by the cerebral capillaries.44 CSF flows fr

om the lateral ventricles through the foramina of Monro, third ventricle, aquedu
ct of Sylvius, and fourth ventricle and out the foramina of Magendie and Luschka
, into the subarachnoid space of the posterior fossa. CSF then courses over the
surface of the brain to the pacchionian or arachnoid granulations, which are dis
tributed at the top of the head adjacent to the superior sagittal sinus and abso
rb CSF. Ventricular enlargement generally results from obstruction of CSF flow i
n the brain (intraventricular obstructive hydrocephalus). Alternatively, the sit
e of blockage may be outside the ventricular system
