3 ATTACK OF THE
SUPERBUG
During mutation, cell death occurs when antimicrobials infect a
bacterial cell and block DNA replication from occurring. Destruction in when
enzymes are released from bacteria making antimicrobials ineffective
against bacterium. An efflux pump is a pump that constantly exports
antimicrobials out of a bacterial cell. Conjugation is when a pilus bridge is
made between two bacterium so they can transport plasmid without threat
of antimicrobials taking over. Transformation is when cells die and genes are
transferred as naked DNA so nearby bacterium can make it into its own.
Transduction is when a bacteriophage aka virus infects bacteriums genetic
process to create more phages inside the cell so that when the cell dies more
phages will be released to infect more bacterium.
