How many parts of speech are there?
How do we define them? How do we relate them to daily life in communicating with one another through speech and writing? Adjacent Alight Barren Disrupt Dynasty Foretaste Germinate Humdrum Hurtle Insinuate Power Point presentation entitled Back to the Basics to help students review the 8 part of speech. Have students take notes on all parts of speech, give an example of a sentence I have written and then ask them to write their own sentences.
Work Session (Explore, Explain, Elaborate)
Group I: Students draw from a basket full of paper with the
different parts of speech written on each paper and whichever piece they draw they write a sentence on the sentence strips provided Differentiated Instruction/ Small Group/Task
Group II: Students will complete a circle map displaying their
understanding of nouns and adjectives. Group III: Students play an interactive game on the computer about the parts of speech via the website: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/grammar/nouns.htm
