MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT


Dice (Six-sided and Multisided).
Whiteboards.
Dry Erase Markers.

PREPARATION AND LOGISTICAL CONSIDERATIONS


Have whiteboards, dry erase markers, and dice in an easily accessible location in the
classroom.

PROCEDURE
Introduction

Time

Welcome students to the carpet and explain the purpose of the lesson.
Have students form a circle on the carpet. This is to ensure that they can all see
the demonstration of the activity to follow.

Demonstrate how to play the dice game.


- Write numbers 2 to 12 on their whiteboards.
- Roll the dice. Using the numbers that they get, create
an addition or subtraction expression that equals one of
the numbers that they have written.
Have students form groups of three. Once they have done
this, they may go and get a whiteboard, three dry erase
markers, and two dice.
Once students have created addition and subtraction
expressions for all of the numbers on their whiteboard
using two six-sided, give them dice that are multisided.

Thank students for their enthusiasm and focussed work.
Ask them to share their thoughts on the dice game.
