Proposed Spring Action Date: March 25, 2017
I will be partnering with the Arc of Fort Bend to have an Activity Day for children
with autism. I will have high school volunteers partner with the children and play
games with them. Snacks will be provided and a variety of activities will be
available. I would like to get sponsors or do fundraising if possible to raise the
necessary money for the event. Before the event, I will have a short training
presentation for the volunteers about how to effectively handle and communicate
with special education kids. At the end of the seminar, I will have the volunteers fill
out a short evaluation form in order to see how much they learned. I will also have
some adult volunteers with experience in autism in order to make sure that the
children are safe and the event runs smoothly. If possible, I would like to have the
event at Clements due to accessibility and available space. If not, I could do it at a
playground or Memorial Park. My proposed date for the event is April 1, the first
Saturday in April. This is an especially appropriate date as April is Autism
Awareness Month.
