Police prepares for elections on May 2010

Talakayan Sa Isyung Pulis (T.S.I.P.), a one-hour weekly program which focuses on the major
activities and the current issues involving the law enforcement agency, discussed the plans of the
police authorities in preparation for the upcoming elections held at the Multi- Purpose Center in
Camp Crame, Quezon City last Friday.

According to Police Senior Supt. Emanuel Licup, chief of special operations division of PNP,
they regularly conduct meetings and conferences to discuss the safety and security measures in
preparation for the elections this May 2010.

A conference was held last Thursday where in members from AFP, Smartmatic, Comelec and
PPCRV participated. “It is a conference where city and provincial directors gathered to discuss
and plan any security related concerns for the elections,” Licup said.

In the National Comelec, there is a committee in charge mainly for the ban of firearms.

Licup emphasized that every region has a regional Joint Security Control Center (JSCC) and also
provinces have provincial JSCC’s where in the highest Comelec officials in every area is in
charge along with the highest PNP and AFP officials. Some of the functions of these centers are
to assure that peace and order in the upcoming elections will be observed and to make sure that
plans and strategies for safety and security concerns will be implemented.

The program was hosted by Chief Supt. Leonardo Espina with co-host Kathy San Gabriel where
they have also discussed the basic rules of law enforcement which is the protection of human
rights.
