Unsaid Goodbye

Never got the chance to say goodbye my dear friend Dr. Amit Yadav.
So peculiar you were with this Dr. thing that made you check so many banks and finally
zeroed on one Bank because they agreed to issuing a debit card with having Dr. Amit Yadav
on it and not simply Amit Yadav.
Me and my bestest buddy Dr. Bills are together since we were in standard II of school. We
were in section B and he (Dr. Amit Yadav) was there in section D. After 10th we had to
choose streams for further studies, i opted for non-medical and Dr. Bills and Dr. Amit Yadav
opted for medical.
At the age of fourteen Dr. Amit Yadav started feeling pain in legs and joints which was
ignored by all that time siting that you might have hit something while playing. as time
passed by and with pain persisting, various doctors were consulted and he was diagnosed
with Rheumatoid Arthritis (severe pain in joints was routine by now) fibrosis of muscle
tissues and gods knows what not. Dr. Amit Yadav decided to become a doctor so that he can
get himself properly treated. he was and is still the most cheerful guy i have ever met.
Fast forwarding to year 2012, 5th August 2012 the girl whom i loved the most broke up with
me and i was totally broken. Dr. Bills that time was doing his MS. Thats when he Dr. Amit
Yadav took care of me and we became really close friends. By the time his illness and
subsequent treat had caused severe damage to his kidneys. I once said ke kya yaar... kya
faaltu ki zindagi hai" (what a wasteful life i am living without her) to which he replied your
life is far better than mine, Look at me i am not able to walk properly and experience severe
pain in joints and this kidney thing is also with me now. Jokingly he used to say "yaar jawani
miss maar gayi" (from being a child i have directly grown old).
We have a tea vendor where we used to hangout daily, have some tea and used to talk about
all the shit. Every day between 17:55 to 18:10 he used to call me (without fail) and check by
what time i will be reaching home. He was always there waiting for me at home (playing
with Ayaan my nephew, he used to call him tiger baby) and then we will go for tea or
anyother work that was to be done.
July 2014 he became seriously ill and was bed ridden. Every now and then he used to cry in
pain. I remember in november 2014 he saw his blood test report and told me "yeh hi haal
raha to bhai 6 mahine nahin pakadta" (if things keep going the way they are right now, i will
be gone in 6 months) and i jokingly asked "meri shaadi tak to tik jaayega nah" (i hope you
will be still here for my wedding). Then one day he heard of some doctor in kerala and

decided to meet him. he went to kerala and when he came back he started to recover and
was like ke i have been bed ridden for so long now i just want to go out.
6th March 2015 i went to his home and celebrated holi, when I was about to leave he said
"aur 1-2 din ki baat hai... fir ramnath ke chai par chala karega bhai" (in a day or two, we will
again start going for tea). Next day (7 th March 2015) we all friends were playing cricket in
morning, for some reason i came back home a bit early then others and was busy with other
work. Dr. Bills's father called and told me that Dr. Amit Yadav is no more. He died in the
morning. I couldn't believe what i had just heard. I went straight to my friends who were
still playing cricket, told them about was has happened. We rushed to Dr. Amit Yadav's
home and there we saw him in his bed with all the peace of the world on his face.
Just a day before he was all smiling and cheerful and now he was there in his bed lying
motionless.
I didn't get the chance to say goodbye to him :-(
This whole thing made me realize that indeed god takes away good persons
from us rather quickly.
From meeting daily to this (not seen him in a year) life has changed totally.
I cant exactly remember how many times we fought over small issues. It was I who was
always shouting and telling him things that he should do and he shouldnt and he used to
just sit quietly and wait patiently to make the storm to pass by.. he took all things in his
stride and used to make all of us laugh..
Dr. Amit Yadav taught all of us to stay happy (whatever the situation may be).
Cheers to Dr. Amit Yadav
Cheers to Life! :-)
