SPED teachers of Catarman SPED Center were fortunate enough to
make our way to Tagum City for school benchmarking. On December 6, the group headed by our Division Coordinator, Madam Marites Guillermo visited Imelda Pilot Elementary School SPED Center for school benchmarking. This big SPED Center in a school offering services to autistic learners, HIs, VIs, LDs and gifted learners but they too are offering classes for regular learners. We were received by the teaching staff warmly together with their pupils. We were given the chance to fully observe their classrooms where classes were on-going. Teachers were so cooperative that every question we would want to shed light on were answered and cleared. We were able to compare their management to our own management of learners, their best practices which are worth adapting. The entire teaching staff were very compliant and willing led by their Division Coordinator who unselfishly dispensed to us, every information that will help us improve our teaching as part of the Catarman SPED Center as an avenue for special learners. This was also supported by the school SPED coordinator who enthusiastically offered us what is to be attainable in terms of assurance and concern. Luckily, the teachers of said school succumbed their classes for observation while classes and discussions were made. From there, we were able to associate the way they convey learnings and perceived the aptitudes of the gifted and talented learners. Teachers set upright as facilitators and not anymore as feeders of information. With the aid of instructional technologies which children employed themselves to present their lesson, the class was more interactive. The class was more on research-oriented rather than the conventional ones. It only shows that teachers as well should kept abreast with technological knowledge. In general, the benchmarking activity was certainly a noteworthy effort for us teachers who desire development.
