Was Wegener considered a trustworthy authority? Why or why not?

What was the evidence for his claim that continents were drifting?
Explain the logic he offered to support his claim.
While Wegener's theory and even a lot of his evidence made logical or

intuitive sense to many people, what was missing? Why did he fail to gain the
support of scientists while he was alive?
5.
What was the logic (and evidence) that finally confirmed Wegener's
theory.

If continents can move to different latitudes over very long periods of

time (100's of millions of years) how might that change affect plants and animals?
Choose one particular spot in the video animation that follows below the text and
describe how the movement of the plates might affect climate.

1. Wegener was not seen as a trustworthy source, his hypothesis was highly
controversial and went against many of the ideas of that time.
2. His evidence was that certain fossils of animals were found in places where it
didn't make sense for them to be found.
3. The logic he used to support his claim was the idea that certain fossils of
rainforest dwelling reptiles did not belong in sub zero climate areas.
4. There was no way to test his ideas or explain them.
5. Researchers found out what the ocean floor looked like thanks to sonar. Deep
sea drilling showed seafloor spreading, revealing plate tectonics and the moving of
continents.
6. The moving continents affected plants and animals by separating them and
creating the diversity we see today. The climate would change drastically, as we see in
the video Africa turned from being completely grassy to turning into mainly desert.
