THE AMERICAN SCHOOL
June 15, 2014
To Whom It May Concern,
1am delighted to serve as a professional reference for Mr. Jacob Owens!
Jake has worked at the American School of Kuwait (ASK) as a third grade teacher for
the past two years. As his principal, I have had the opportunity to observe him often
in the classroom and to work with him on various committees. Organized, competent,
and caring, Jake is an exemplary educator.
Jake establishes classroom rules and routines that allow his students to take
responsibility and flourish. Teacher-student interactions are developmentally and
culturally appropriate and demonstrate warmth, caring and respect. Jake worked with
a student on the autism spectrum this year and learned strategies to differentiate his
instruction. His students are individually challenged and have fun learning.
Well respected among his colleagues, Jake is a team player and is task oriented.
Working with his grade level team, he has designed integrated curricula based on the
Understanding by Design (UbD) model and both formative and summative
assessments. Due to his leadership skills, Jake has been promoted to the position of
Grade 3 Team Leader for the 2014-2015.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Jake contributes to the climate of our school
through leading after school activities such as ice skating, math club, spots club and
soccer. He served on the Technology Committee. Most recently, he served on the
vertical mathematics committee investigating Common Core State Standards and
setting up a “Math Night” for parents.
Mr. Owens possesses the qualities of kindness, humor, and professional knowledge
which characterize our education profession at its very best. Please feel free to contact
me should you require further information at bovers@ask.edu.kw
Sincerely,
Dr. Susan Boyer
