Mrs. Cracchiolo 10 Honors Literature and Composition 19 December 2016 The Cost of Nobility People of Rome, I speak here today understanding that many of you are conflicted. Many of you supported Pompey and believed he was mighty, but who was it that defeated many of our enemies and kept us safe from them? Who was it that brought wealth to Rome, yet still brought aid to the poor? Do not be blind, Romans; no one loved you as Caesar loved you. Remember what he left you in his will? Remember the great riches he left for you? There will never be a leader as selfless and humble as Caesar. He loved you and cared for you, like you were his own children. Do not give in to these evil men who try to manipulate you, who tell you that Caesar was ambitious and corrupt, who tell you that Caesar had to be murdered for you. The conspirators who murdered Caesar claim that he had awful intentions to harm the people of Rome. Yet, had Caesar caused shame or destruction to our magnificent city? These heartless men who killed our leader claim that he was a power-hungry tyrant. Yet, had they not murdered Caesar to selfishly keep power for themselves? Now, their despicable actions plague us in war, and these murderers intend to topple those who supported this great man. Will you let them win once more? Will you let them destroy our society once more? People of Rome, I speak here today to bid you stand against these villainous men and fight for the future of Rome!
