MANILA, Philippines The Philippine Air Force (PAF) rescued an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who
needed medical treatment while aboard an Italian ship cruising the West Philippine Sea (South China
Sea).
The rescue of Filipino crew member Able Seaman Jaime Jerome happened on Thursday, December 8,
while the Italian vessel M/V Marlene D'Amato was crossing the West Philippine Sea.
PAF spokesman Colonel Antonio Francisco said the ship "requested for the aeromedical evacuation" of
Jerome.

When the ship made this distress call, it was around 100 nautical miles west of Bolinao, Pangasinan.
Francisco said Air Force pilots lifted Jerome from M/V Marlene D'Amato to Villamor Air Base in Pasay City
"despite the high level of risks posed by the deteriorating weather condition en route and the rough sea
conditions which made the landing at the ship deck more difficult."
Francisco said this mission "exemplifies the PAF's commitment to put into action its thrust of developing a
Jointly Engaged Transforming Force for greater peace and security."

MANILA, Philippines The Foton Tornadoes emerged victorious for the second straight year as they rout
the Petron Blaze Spikers, 25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, to claim the 2016 Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix
Championship on Saturday, December 10 at the PhilSports Multi-Purpose Arena.
The two-time champs capitalized on their opponent's 12 unforced errors in the opening set, as Petron lost
momentum upon losing open spiker Mina Aganon in their lineup.
Aganon limped her way back to the Blaze Spikers' bench after suffering a bad landing late in the first, and
failed to come back to the court afterwards.
The Foton Tornadoes, who played only their third Grand Prix conference, survived a third set rally from
Petron as they scored more open attacks and aces in the fourth.

Moro Branislav's squad ended the season with a single loss as Foton captured their second title in
franchise history.

Awra knew he was gay at age 3

From left: Simon Onyok Pineda, Coco Martin and McNeal Mak Mak Briguela
Teen actor McNeal Mak Mak Briguela, popularly known as Awra, already knew his sexual
preference as early as 3 years old.
He liked playing with Hello Kitty stuff. He also once told me not to throw or give away the
skirts and shorts that his two sisters had outgrown. We have already seen early on the signs
that hes gay, said Mak Maks mom Marivic, adding that this never became a problem for her
and the boys dad, Oneal Brian.
His papa has a brother who is also gay. This brother is now living abroad and has since gotten
married, she explained. In fact, Marivic said she suspected that her youngest son, Brione, 11,
is also gay. He hasnt come out yet, but he is so much like Mak Mak. We even think he is more
talented than his brother. He dances really well. The only difference is that Brione is shy.

Marivic said all of Mak Maks siblings are shy, including his sisters Nicole, 15, and Mikay, 13.
Mak Mak is one-of-a-kind. I dont know whom he got it from. When he wants to do something,
he just goes and does it.
Marivic said she doesnt get to spend much time with Mak Mak these days. The Briguelas live
in Las Pias City while the 13-year-old actor now stays in a condominium unit near ABS-CBN
that was sponsored by Dreamscape Entertainment, producer of Ang Probinsyano.
They took pity on Mak Mak because he had to travel so far just to get to work. He now stays
at the condo with one of his uncles, a cousin of his papa. When we miss each other, we just
talk with him on the phone. He goes home during weekends, or when theres no work, Marivic
shared with the Inquirer.
She said a lot has changed for Mak Mak since he entered show biz. He cant go malling on his
own now. He used to do that here in Las Pias because we live close to a commercial
establishment, she said.
Mak Mak is now enrolled in a special program at Almanza Uno High School, where he only
attends class every Monday.
He spends the whole day there. He reviews with a teacher all the lessons that he missed
during the days he wasnt in class. While on taping, he reads the modules given to him. He
also gets into a group chat with his classmates, who help him by discussing their activities,
Mommy Marivic explained.

She added: I told him to remember to study despite his busy schedule. I dont want him to
stop school. The school has given him the perfect program. It will be such a waste if he
doesnt continue.
Marivic said that except for the 30 percent mandated by law, Mak Maks earnings go straight
to his savings. We use this to spend for the things that Mak Mak needs. We cannot get more
than that, even if we need more for the other members of the family. Thats part of the
agreement with ABS-CBN to make sure that he has something for his future.
Despite the tight work schedule, Marivic said she was not worried that her son would get
burned out. I know that he enjoys what he is doing. He is closest to his Kuya Marvin (Yap, who
plays his surrogate father in Ang Probinsyano) and to Onyok, who also lives in the same
condominium building as him, she said.
Vice Ganda, Mak Maks costar in the comedy flick Super Parental Guardians, recently took
the teener on a shopping spree. His Ate Vice likes Mak Mak a lot, and even calls the boy his
mini-me, said Marivic.
As a brother, Marivic said Mak Mak is very loving and doting. She said he would always
teach his sisters the latest in fashion. Hed often say, Mikay, you should be kikay!

Samsung Note 7 to be 'killed' by software update

The tech company moves to end its problem with the fire-prone device but at least one phone provider has said it
won't play along.

Samsung Note 7s that have not already been returned will be killed off by a software update
released later this month.
About 2.5 million Note 7s were recalled in September after reports some had caught fire because of
faulty lithium batteries.
In October, Samsung confirmed it was stopping production of the device just two months after it was
launched.
On Friday, Samsung Electronics said that the software update, to be released in mid-December in the
US, would prevent the devices from charging and functioning as mobile phones, leaving them useless.
One US mobile provider, Verizon Communications, said it would not take part in the update, however.
It said it would be risky for those Note 7 users who do not have another device to use instead.
In a statement, they said: "We will not push a software upgrade that will eliminate the ability for the Note 7
to work as a mobile device in the heart of the holiday travel season.
"We do not want to make it impossible to contact family, first responders or medical professionals in an
emergency situation."

Bringing phones to school

When you were a kid did you ever have to call your mother and the school wouldn't
let you? Kids today still have to call their mothers sometimes! But they school wont
let them! Schools have become much stricter about the phones even when its an
emergency sometimes. So thats why it would be a great thing if schools would let
us have cell phones in school. There could be an emergency that no one knows
about and there might not be time to reach a phone! They take students cell phones
when they found out that the student is bringing his or her phone. The student
wasnt even using it and the teacher saw it her backpack and confiscated the
phone. So many students bring their cell phones to school for reasons like for
emergency purposes. Anything can happen in our world today and having a cell
phone with your child at all times could save their life. Cell phones should be
allowed in schools but theyre not. They keep a child in touch with their parents and
are easy to keep up with. Please let cell phones be allowed in schools.

Vice President Leni Robredo is resigning from the Cabinet of President Rodrigo
Duterte just 150 days after she took her oath as chair of the Housing and Urban
Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).
Robredo on Sunday said she was giving up her Cabinet post, citing a Malacaang
officials instruction barring her from attending its meetings.
Last night, Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Jun Evasco Jr. told the Inquirer that President
Duterte had instructed him to inform Robredo and Patricia Licuanan, chair of the

Commission on Higher Education, to stop attending Cabinet meetings due to

irreconcilable differences.
Licuanan is an appointee of then President Benigno Aquino III.
Evasco did not elaborate on what the irreconcilable differences were.
Robredo, a member of the Liberal Party, has assailed the extrajudicial killings in the
Duterte administrations war on drugs and opposed the burial of the dictator Ferdinand
Marcos at Libingan ng mga Bayani. Mr. Duterte supported the Marcos burial at
Libingan.
The Vice President said the instruction, relayed by the Presidents special assistant,
Christopher Bong Go, was for her to desist from attending all Cabinet meetings
starting this Monday, Dec. 5.
