Mj: We are back with our news. Manila council OKs ‘bawal sabit’
ordinance. Kiel give us the details.
Kiel:

The Manila city council has passed a “bawal sabit”

ordinance prohibiting commuters from hitching a ride by hanging
onto the rear or sides of public utility vehicles. Twenty councilors,
out of 38, were present when Ordinance 8545 was passed on
third and final reading on Thursday.

The ordinance, authored by District 1 Councilor Martin Isidro

Jr., seeks to “prohibit hanging onto or riding in the rear and top
part of any (PUV) colloquially known as ‘sabit,’ and imposing
penalties for drivers and passengers in violation thereof.” Isidro
thanked his fellow lawmakers for supporting his proposed
ordinance, reiterating the need to enforce it to prevent accidents
on Manila’s roads.

Passengers, drivers and “kundoktor,” whose role is to collect

fares and guide passengers, who violate the ordinance will be
fined P500 for a first offense, P1,500 on second offense and
P3,000 on third offense, according to reports.

The ordinance awaits the signature of Manila Mayor Honey

Lacuna-Pangan before it takes effect 15 days after publication,
said Manila Vice Mayor and city council presiding officer John
Marvin Servo-Nieto.
Ruth: Gaza's health system 'on its knees,' WHO chief warns

The health care system in the Gaza Strip is "on its knees,"
the head of the World Health Organization warned Friday, noting
that half of the territory's 36 hospitals are no longer functioning.

Speaking to the Security Council, Tedros Adhanom

Ghebreyesus described the situation on the ground as desperate:
"Hospital corridors crammed with the injured, the sick, the dying;
morgues overflowing; surgery without anesthesia; tens of
thousands of displaced people sheltering at hospitals."

"The health system is on its knees, and yet somehow is

continuing to deliver lifesaving care," he said.

Tedros said there had been more than 250 attacks on

health care such as strikes on hospitals, clinics, ambulances and
patients in Gaza and the West Bank, and 25 such attacks in Israel
in the conflict triggered by Hamas's shock October 7 assault.

"The best way to support those health workers and the

people they serve is by giving them the tools they need to deliver
that care medicines, medical equipment and fuel for hospital
generators," he said, calling for an increase in aid trickling in
through the Rafah crossing with Egypt and repeating the UN's.
Kiel: Titanic Prochazka-Peireira, Pavlovich-Aspinall fights
headline UFC 295

There are titanic fights, and there are titanic fights.

UFC 295 offers two of the more tantalizing matches this 2023 with
huge implications.

Polish light heavyweight Jiri Prochazka (29-3-1) makes his

anticipated return to the Octagon against Alex Peireira (8-2-0) in
the main event of UFC 295 at the Madison Square Garden in New
York City.

In June of 2022, Prochazka took the light heavyweight title belt

from Glover Teixeira in an epic five-round match where each
fighter was on the ropes at one time or the other. Prochazka
submitted Teixeira literally seconds away from the final bell. Soon
after his most glorious win, the Polish fighter suffered an injury
that forced him to surrender the belt.

Peireira moved up in weight classes and defeated former

champion Jan Blachowicz via split decision in UFC 291.

And now, they meet for the vacant title. Prochazka has vowed to
come back better. Now it remains to be seen if he can take this
huge win over the powerful Brazilian.

This is Kiel reporting. Back to you guys.

Arminie: Now let us move on to our Entertainment News. Elon

Musk biography to be adapted into movie. Ruth tell us the details.

Ruth:

A top-selling biography of billionaire Elon Musk is being

adapted into a film with prolific US director Darren Aronofsky
already attached, production company A24 said

The author of "Elon Musk," star biographer Walter Isaacson, had

a previous book on Apple founder Steve Jobs made into a 2015
film starring Michael Fassbender.

A representative for A24 confirmed that it had won a "highly

competitive" deal for the rights to Issacson's book, with "top
studios and filmmakers in contention too."

The production company was behind last year's multi-Oscar-

winning "Everything Everywhere All at Once," as well as "The
Whale," whose leading man Brendan Fraser took home Best
Actor.

Darren Aronofsky, director of "The Whale" and other hit dramas

such as "Black Swan" and "Requiem for a Dream," is set to direct
and produce the Musk biopic, the A24 representative said. The
book was published in September and like Isaacson's previous
works on Jobs and Leonardo Da Vinci, among other notables
quickly shot to the top of bestseller lists.

This is Ruth reporting. Back to you guys.
