Comparitive Civilizations
Period 5-6
These three painting represent various characteristics of the Renaissance, from perspective to
symmetry to religious scences. The first painting (1), is called Alterpiece with the Passion of
Christ: Crucifixion. This painting represents a religious scence, as it is Jesus crucifixion on the
cross. Also, the attetion to the background is prominet with very good detail. There is also a little
bit of symmetry with three people on both sides of Jesus. Three is a holy number, representing
God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirt. The second painting is called Alterpiece with the Passion of
Christ: Christ beforeHigh Priest. This is also a religious but non religious painting. It has Jesus in
it, but it is a normal scence with nothing abnormal happing. The figures also seem to be
conversating and moving, another sign of Renaissance art. They all seem to be rebuking Jesus,
and they seem angry at him. The third and last painting doesnt have a name, but it is often called
A Franciscan Monk Preaching. This picture shows movement between two men going up and
down the steps leading to the podium. This is also a religious scence because it is a monk
preaching the teaching to the masses. The men in the bottom right also seem to be conversating
about something, probably the lesson. They are all dressed in traditional clothing and some in
robes. All these three painting and a major part of Renaissance art is religious scences. This is a
major part of Renissance art.
