CANONIO, John Elmo C.

BABRC 4-2

DEFINITION:
Mayflies often dubbed as one day insects because of their short life-span that only
lasts for only 24 hours. Throughout the span of 24 hours, they have to fly, mate and give
birth before they draw their last breath the following day. They have more than 2,000
species, most of them die within a few hours upon hatching underwater. When the mayflies
die, their carcasses will be feasted by birds and frogs.

COMPARISON AND CONTRAST:

In 1898, a book written by Morgan Anderson entitled the The Wreck of the Titan is
about a fictional ocean liner that was named Titan which in the book was the biggest ocean
liner ever created. The mighty ocean liner Titan sank after striking an Iceberg in the North
Atlantic. 14 years later the book was released, theres an ocean liner that sends off from
Southhampton that also strike an Iceberg at the same ocean where the Titan struck an
iceberg and sank. The ocean liner that shared the same fate with the ocean liner in the book
is no other than the RMS Titanic. RMS Titanic and Titan have the same size that is
approximately 880 feet, they were both called unsinkable. Both ocean liners have issues
with their lifeboats, Titan has only 24 lifeboats and Titanic has only 18 lifeboats. They both
struck an Iceberg on April at the North Atlantic Ocean and both drowned 2,500 passengers.
The author of the novel, Anderson denied the claims of Clairvoyance and stated that the fate
of the Titan was explained by his extensive knowledge of shipbuilding and maritime trends.
