Abstract

This research is presented the detailed description of CO2 capture of flue gas
from coal-fired power plant using amine solvents. We simulate operational units of
1,000 MW coal-fired power plant based on Thailand Power Development Plan 20152036 (PDP2015). Rate-based models are simulated by Aspen plus for four amine
solvents Monoethanolamine (MEA), Diethanolamine (DEA), Diglycolamine (DGA) and 2Amino-2-metyl-1-propanol (AMP). The parameters and operating conditions are
specified to achieve 90% CO2 capture in absorber column and 99.5% CO2 purity from
regeneration in stripper column for each solvents. In this research a comparative study
of absorption performance and re-boiler duty consumption by varying packing height
and packing diameter of absorber and stripper column is reported. Moreover, the
temperature profiles of liquid and vapor in absorber were studied which is used to
check the model behavior. When packing height and packing diameter are increased,
absorption performance is increasing and re-boiler duty is decreasing. MEA has potential
to be better performing solvent than the others, with a lower solvent flowrate, a lower
packing diameter in absorber column comparing to base case and lowest capital cost
investment.
