Rahkum is a budding entrepreneur who has come up with a start-up idea in healthcare sector.
But he wants to know the technological aspect of his business idea. He contacts you, a Consultant
at a niche IT Consulting firm, to get expert advice on his idea. He gives you the following context
on the business idea.
Healthcare is one of the most important industries in India, in terms of criticality, revenue and
Employment. Differing sizes of hospitals are strewn all across the country and save several lives
every day. In an industry where timing and quality of service make or break the situation, one
has to ensure highest standards of service. It is only fair that all citizens of the nation have access
to such prompt medical service. The doctor-to-patient ratio in India stands at 1:20001, whereas
WHO recommends 1:1000. There is also a substantial increase in the demand for high-quality
and specialist healthcare services in tier-II and tier-III cities. Pricing transparency is one concern
that deters Indians from undergoing preventive healthcare systems. Cost effectiveness of the
treatment is possible only under the availability of information to people. In growing the
penetration of quality healthcare services in India, government spending, FDI and technology can
be three cornerstones.
Hospitals not only in India but around the world face a huge problem of scheduling. Many
hospitals fail to keep the promise to schedule the patients to their respective doctors quickly and
are often faced with the ire of the patients. Most of the hospitals tend to take it further and
announce a zero wait programs which put their patients into fast track units to get them in and
out of emergency beds quickly. This requires the use of sophisticated computers to track and
administer a complete status report on every patient in every emergency bed. This requires a use
of Service Execution Systems which tracks and monitors patients encounters with the hospital.
So these IT systems play a major role in increasing the efficiency and accuracy of scheduling
process. On the other hand, India is much backward as compared to other countries in providing
basic health services to the common people. Health insurance coverage is only 17% as compared
to about 90% in US. Patients also face increasing difficulties in finding appropriate hospitals at
the right time at an affordable cost. Many of the patients in emergency cases die because of
unavailability of doctors or beds in hospitals.
In view of the above seen problems in the Indian context, a need arises for a one stop solution
which will encompass both patients and hospitals. It will fulfill all medical facilities required by a
family where it will help those customers from finding customized health insurances to
intelligently map them to hospitals based on relevant attributes like location, type of the
accident/disease, expected cost, availability of doctors, etc. Also, it will be solving the issues faced
by hospitals.

Rakhum wants to put his idea to implementation on 20-Jan-2017. You have agreed to provide
your expert advice on 6-Jan-2017 over a meeting. As an IT Consultant, Rahkum wants you to
develop a business strategy which will effectively capture this huge market by making use of
various technologies at hand today, which can help in tackling these problems. As India provides
its own unique set of constraints in terms of sizes of operations and economy, he wants your
solution to highlight how the usage of new technologies that are at our shores and have become
more available and affordable in recent times due to easier access to computational power can
be combined to work together. To meet the timelines, you have planned to finish the research
and solutions by 5-Jan-2017.
Note: Specifically mention all the assumptions taken for data and while calculation of finances.
Do mention the sources of your data.
