The Need For Struggle
Christopher Notes
Content Analysis:
Setting:
Home, cocoon
Characters:
The man who took home the emperor moth to watch it emerge.
The moth who struggled not having beautiful wings, instead he has a swollen
body and shrivelled wings.
Conflict:
Man vs. Society. Man could be the moth and the society could be the man. The
conflict between them arises from wrong doing and taking shortcuts in life which
is not applicable to every man.
Solution/Suggestion:
The author depicts life-long lesson and he delivered it beyong words can explain.
I would suggest if he emphasizes more of the moth's struggle through the story.
Nevertheless, it was great knowing it is just a short story that does not need
complexities.
Point of View:
Omniscient Point of View. The narrator sees all, knows all and enters the minds of
all the characters in the story. The narrator can see the action from all angles.
Climax:
When the man cut the snip knowing it could help the moth but he was wrong.

Mood:
Sorrowful, disappointed.
Symbol:
Man symbolizes people who will bring you down, who will pull you down and
who will do everything just to let you suffer, and stay on your struggle.
Theme:
Appreciation, hardships and difficulty, challenges and perseverance, faith.
Message:
Appreciate the struggles you are facing and about to face, it is the measure of how
meaningful you lived your life.
Trust God's way of letting you suffer. He do it on purpose, to make you strong on
upcoming battles. Thus, God gives his hardest battles to His strongest soldiers.
