COURSE RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES:
Horticulture is a course that explores the science behind the growth of plants and management
practices. During the course the following topics will be discussed: SAE development, fall mum
management, bramble production and site selection, hydroponic production, poinsettia production
management, bedding plant production management, landscape design and maintenance, floriculture, and a
nine-week independent project of student choice.
METHOD OF EVALUATION:
Student work will be evaluated by class activities, assignments, unit quizzes, unit tests, and semester
assessments. The semester grades for Horticulture will be determined as follows:
60% - Class Activities/Assignments
30% - Unit Quizzes/Unit Tests
10% - Semester Assessments Fall Final (Poinsettia Production Assessment) and
Spring Final (Course Portfolio)
ASSIGNMENTS:
Assignments are due on the due date and at the time called for. NO LATE PAPERS will be accepted.
If a student attends school and is dismissed early for an activity or appointment, assignments due that day
are to be turned in before leaving to receive full credit for the assignment. If not handed in before leaving
for the activity or appointment, a zero will be recorded for the assignment. Class activities, quizzes and
tests are to be made up by coming in before school, during seminar, or after school two days after the
absence unless ill and absent more than one day. Exceptions will be made on an individual basis for
extended absence.
Make up work is the responsibility of the student. Students missing class for school activities or
appointments are to be prepared for their next class. Arrangements can be made for makeup due to
extended absences. Make up may be scheduled before school, during seminar or after school. All work
must be completed by the time the unit test is taken.

CLASS INFORMATION SUMMARY:


1. NO LATE PAPERS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
2. Student classroom procedures.
Students are to be seated and prepared for instruction when bell sounds for the beginning of class.
Students are to come to class prepared with writing utensil, paper, and binder to take notes.
Student computers are to remain in book bags and are not to be out without teacher instructions.
Students are to use class time for academic purposes.
Students are to remain seated until excused at the end of class.
