Summary

The article TV Violence: Does it Cause Real-Life Mayhem? by Susan R. Lamson states
that the current widespread of American violence sources from the violence shown on television.
According to Dr. Centerwall, the cause of the increase of violence is television after seven years
of research. He also attests that televised mayhem has led to half of the violent acts seen in
America. However, entertainment companies benefit greatly from violent television and
continue to feed the audience more. There are so many violent acts on T.V channels presently
that it averages out to one hundred every hour, including childrens programming. Children are
proved to be unable to differentiate between reality and the fictional violence occurring on T.V,
thus leading to many negative effects. Not only does the newer generation become less likely to
assist those victims to violence, but they also become aggressors themselves. Entertainment
companies have changed very little in order to limit the spreading of violent television; they
continue to produce grisly shows for the audience. Howard Stringer assures CBS of its positive
traits, but there has been no change; he then pushes the cause rising violence to firearms. In the
end, only citizens are able to stop the menace of violent television through sending letters to the
presidents of television networks.
