1E. Designing coherent instruction: K-5 Curriculum

I chose the k-5 Art Curriculum map for this domain because I think it is a strong example
of designing coherent instruction. The curriculum map features all of our art curriculum
from Kindergarten through 5th grade. By glancing through the curriculum you can see
how the projects and concepts build upon each other allowing the students to develop
new skills while building on their previous learning. Mrs. Bierman at the middle school
and Mrs. Driscoll at the high school also have their curriculum plans to make a cohesive
k-12 art curriculum plan for the district.
It features the projects we are currently using in our curriculum along with projects from
the past. This allows the curriculum to be a constant work in progress as each year we
reflect on the projects that worked and what projects didnt work. This allows us to make
the necessary changes to improve the projects. However, we still have the projects in the
curriculum plan so we have the information we need to bring projects back and adjust
our curriculum as we reflect at the end of each school year.
