Over the years, Gila Regional Medical Center has risen to the top as a healthcare

provider in Southwest New Mexico. With the introduction of such equipment as

the state of the art linear accelerator to GRMC in 2012, GRMC has set itself apart
from typical rural hospital capabilities by continuing to offer the best technology
and care. GRMC has increased its capabilities even further with the addition of
their new fluoroscopy unit.
The fluoroscopy unit expands current capabilities for several procedures such as
GI studies, barium swallows, lumbar punctures, arthrograms, etc. The
fluoroscopy unit allows medical professionals to see x-rays in real-time, moving
images of organ systems, bones, joints and muscles, which will increase accuracy
for all available procedures. The new unit offers a tilting feature from -30 to +90
and expands the current weight limit, opening up these procedures to a whole
new demographic. Patients less than 350lbs was our previous weight limit and
our new machine will hold up to 507lbs, stated Director of Imaging Ashley
Burkos, BSRS, RT(R) (CT).
These new features will allow for some invasive surgeries, CTs and MRIs to be
replaced with minimally invasive and less costly imaging procedures, and with
automated and remote features, overall efficiency of the offered procedures is
dramatically increased. Another of the units greatest qualities is the added
safety features, such as a dedicated anti-collision device to prevent injury to
patients or caregivers while the machine is in motion and a reduction in patient
radiation dosage. This in turn, will allow GRMC to decrease patient anxiety due to
wait time, outpatient scheduling, and the stress of surgery. What does this mean
for GRMC patients? It means faster, easier and more accurate test results
available right in their neighborhood.
GRMCs Imaging Department remains on the cutting edge with the installation of
the new fluoroscopy unit, stated Chief of Clinical Services Ray Goellner. GRMC is
dedicated to providing Southwest New Mexico with state of the art equipment
and exceptional quality care. With unheard of capabilities, GRMC is well on its
way to building the best rural hospital in the country for those they serve.
