Crucible character analysis
For this analysis, I want to use Revered Hale. Reverend Hales specialty is with
witchcraft. His way of thinking makes me want to talk about whether he had a good or
bad personality.I want to talk about Hales personality and the way he thinks. Hales
purpose here is to try to save Ruth and Betty from the things theyve done in the woods,
and hopefully wake them from their sleep like state. Quite a few girls are guilty of
dancing in the woods in front of a fire, and they, so far, are guilty of witchcraft. Hale is
the guy that figures out if that is true, and he is examining Betty to see if it is true.
I noticed that Reverend Hale is a very creepy kind of guy, and he has an ego the
size of an elephant. I watched the movie version of this book, and the way he physically
examines Betty makes me feel weirded out in a sense. When John had said My, theyre
heavy! he was speaking about the books that Hale had arrived with. They must be,
theyre weighted with authority. Hale said. The way he had said this proved how his
ego is enormous. His enormous ego; however, has a certain purpose in this story. His ego
in this play actually kind of helps add a bit of emphasis in this play. I find his ego quite a
bit funny here, but I can see the reason why it is here. Hale sees that he has some
authority when it comes to what happened in Act I.

Hale feels that he knows about everything that he works with. When Hale
arrived in Salem, he called into question about Parris and Putnam. When he
questioned Putnam about his daughter by asking Your child ails too? Putnam
answers, but it shows how Hale feels like he know everything that is going on at
that point. Another thing is when Parris tells Hale about the dancing in the woods.
He had suspicions towards Parris, and asked you permit dancing? It seems as if
Hale is a bit angry or surprised.
The significance of Hale in the play is not entirely huge, but could change
the play a little bit.Without Hale,I say that there would not even be court, and the
girls would not flip out the way they have. Hale if a guy that puts a certain feel in
this play, and I argue that this book wouldnt be interesting without him. A huge
thing Hale does is question Tituba when Abigail blames her for the drinking of
blood during the dance. Hale: Woman, have you enlisted these children for the
devil? This is when Abigail has blamed Tituba for her drinking blood, so Hale
actually had tried fixing Tituba. The thing is though, when they started talking
more, it had everyone shouting I saw someone with the devil!
When Hale arrived in the play, everyone seemed to be very happy. Hale
also seems to be a very happy, cheery, and soft guy. Putnam: It does not seem to
help us today, Mr. Hale. We look to you to come to our house and save our child.
Hale: Your child ails too? This shows that Hale is kind and seems to be
concerned. I really love this about Hale, and it really seems like he is the nicest
guy in this entire play. For the time period, I argue that he is actually pretty smart.

From the movie, when he arrived at Parriss home, he examined Betty using all of
his senses.

A really interesting thing I have found in act III of this play is that Hale is
very defensive in court. I noticed that he has talked a lot about Rebecca Nurse in
the court because she is condemned in the morning from the court. Hale: I have
this morning signed away the soul of Rebecca Nurse, your honor. Ill not conceal
it, my hand shakes yet as with a wound! I pray you, sir, this argument let lawyers
present you. I argue that this statement Hale has made, shows the anger Hale is
feeling towards the judge. Hale cares about Rebecca, and I argue that Hale is
angry that Rebecca may, or even is hung for something she may have been
accused of.
An interesting thing I have read in the crucible is when everyone is in
court and Abigail begins to act out. Hale indicating Abigail and the girls: you
cannot believe them! This is most definitely something that Hale would say
because he knows how abigail is. The sad thing is that Danforth doesnt believe
him. What Hale is trying to do is save Mary Warren from being hung, and accused
of this crime. An interesting twist that happened; however, is John Proctor is the
one with the devil. When Hale finds this out in court, he gets angry and storms out
of the courtroom.
With Hale in this book, I have realized that without him, Rebecca Nurse
would be dead. Hale has spoke to Rebecca Nurse about confessing to the judges
of witchcraft; however, she will not confess because she feels its a lie. Rebecca:

Why, it is a lie, it is a lie; how may I damn myself? I cannot, I cannot. Another
one that would be dead without Hale, is John Proctor. Hale has spoken to
Elizabeth Proctor, to speak to her husband, and Elizabeth has convinced John to
confess. I argue that he is caring enough to help people live life longer, and I find
that amazing about Hale.

By the end of the crucible, Hale was very angry with Proctor. The reason
Hale was so angry is because Proctor tore the confession paper he has signed.
His breast heaving, his eyes staring, Proctor tears the paper and crumples it,
and he is weeping if fury, but erect. Hale responds to this as if Proctor is insane.
By the end of this book, Hale weeps in frantic prayer. Even though Hale has
attempted much to keep Proctor alive, he has died.
