Maus Five Frame Analysis


Page 91:
Starting with the first frame, it begins to tell the story of what happened to
Vladiks father. The reader can tell that Vladik is sad/depressed while explaining the story
because of how dark the frame is and the tone of the writing. All of the people (the jewish
people) around Vladiks father, sister, and her children, are all darker. Every character/person in
this frame has darker shaded clothing, the baby carriage is shaded darker. The cousin, the german
soldier, Vladiks father, sister and his sisters children have the darkest clothes on; all black. The
spiegelmans cousin was working the registration, and in this frame, the cousin looks as if he
looking behind him towards the german soldier as hes giving Vladiks father his pass. Yet, the
German soldier that is behind the cousin is drinking what looks like alchohol. That just brings a
darker mood to that specific frame.
The second frame that i analyzed, was where Vladiks father realized that Vladiks sister,
Fela, had been sent to the opposite side with all of her children. We know that Fela and her
children will die because the text of that frame says,
