Solving the Kashmir Question

Today I continue my journey to the Arabian sea. I have been living in Kashmir my whole life but
now my goal is to get out. With me I have just my daughter. When the conflict started my husband and
only son left to fight but they never returned. With no male by my side life has been hard and dangerous
for me and my young daughter. Since my husbands disappearance I have had to provide for me and my
daughter. I try to keep my daughter safe and with me for many have been taken or orphaned. Many young
girls and women have witnessed sexual violence; some even have been killed.
My journey has been long, but now we are trained to face whatever comes our way. When we
first started our journey to catch a boat at the Arabian sea we traveled with another woman and her young
children. With lack of medications we have with us, they became sick and did not make it.
Many women stayed back in Kashmir continuing to practice their customs and ethnic beliefs and
traditions. I knew that things would only get worse there and more violent. I plan to make it to the
Arabian sea and give my daughter a future. Tomorrow Is a new day.
Till tomorrow,

Anjana from Kashmir
