The Bose 101 Music Monitor System OWNER’S GUIDE BLACK TERMINAL RED TERMINAL FIQURE1 Connect speaker cable to each Model 101 speaker by depressing the buttons and sliding in the bare ends of the wires. Connectthe positive wire to the red terminal andthe negative wire to the black terminal. FIGURE 2 Be sure to connect the wire fram the positive (ced) terminal ‘on each speaker to the corresponding positive terminalon your receiver. Similarly, connect the wite from the negative (black) terminal on each speaker to the negative terminalon your receiver. To begin enjoying your 101 system, justfollow the directions below. Unpacking Your Model 101 Speakers Both 101 Music Monitor speakers are packedin one carton. Unpack the carton caretully, and save the cartonand the packing materials for possible use later. Connecting Your Model 101 Speakers 1, Sttip approximately "inch of insulation from each end ofboth the left andthe right speaker wires. 2. Place one of the Model 101 speakers on the lett side of your room, 3. Locate the terminals on the rear ofthe speaker {see FIGURE 1), 4. Connect one conductor of the left speaker wire tothe red (positive) terminal on the speaker. In the same manner, cannect the other conductor to the black (negative) terminal on the speaker. 5. Locate the lett speaker terminaison the rear o! your amplifier or roceiver. They are usually marked “Speaker Left” or" Spkr L.” Connect the other ends of the left speaker wire, making sure to connect positive to positive and negative tonegative (see FIGURE 2). 6. Place the other Model 101 speaker on the right side of your room. 7. Connect the right speaker to your amplifier or recetver in tho same manner as you did the left. Phasing Test Tomeke sure that your speakers are connected to yo! receiver in phase (positive to positive, negative to negative), perform this simple test: 1. Setyour sound system for MONO (monophonic) repro- duction. Bo sure the balance control is contorad or sot to, normal 2. Temporarily place the loudspeakers so that they are facing each other closely. 3._Piaymusic containing deep bass notes through the system. Ifthe musicseems to be lacking in deep bass, reverse the + and ~connections on one speaker and repeat the test. Use the connection which produces the most powerful bass. In Case of Difficulty If your 101 Music Monitor® system exhibits one of the folowing problems, try the suggested solutions before returning i for servicing.
