I am currently also doing my practicum for my Paraeducator degree. I was especially
interested this week in the chapter on autism as the room I am working in has 9 students with autism. I found myself realizing that the teacher I am working with has used many of the tips and strategies that the text outlined. She has set up PEC systems for all of the students, either using pictures with Velcro and binders or iPads with applications that do the same thing. I completely agree with the text that it is important to individualize the instruction for each student. Even though all 9 of these students are in the same room, they cover a wide grade range (2-5th) and developmental range. Most are nonverbal and each have their unique traits that make it important to differentiate the lessons.
