LS NAV Service for KDS

Introduction
LS NAV Service for KDS is the glue between LS NAV Hospitality and the Kitchen
Display System (KDS); it is designed to monitor orders to send to the KDS for
processing as well to provide feedback for order statuses.
This guide describes the install and configuration process of LS NAV Service for KDS,
which consists of Navision Application Server (NAS) and LS NAV KDS Client. LS NAV
Hospitality for Hard Rock India and the Kitchen Display System (KDS) is required
beforehand.

1 Installing LS NAV KDS Client

The LS NAV KDS Client is utilized by the NAS to communicate with the KDS. In order
to install, execute LS NAV KDS Client Installer.exe, the installer extracts required files
into specified folder and registers the LSRetail.KClientNAV.dll as a COM object.

2 Installing Navision Application Server (NAS)

The NAS is a middle-tier server that runs as a Windows service, designed to run
Dynamics NAV logic and for our purposes utilized to manage the communication
between LS NAV Hospitality and the KDS.
NAS is a component included with the Dynamics NAV installer, which needs to be
specifically selected during the Dynamics NAV install process. In case Navision has
been previously installed without NAS, one can run the installer again and install
specifically. The image below points out the (Navision) Application Server option in
the installer:

When the NAS has been installed, one can configure a NAS instance with the
Application Server Manager for Microsoft Dynamics NAV snap-in (available through
the start menu). The figure below depicts example configuration:

Dynamics NAV connection information must be filled appropriately as well set the
Start-Up Parameter field to KDS for desired behavior.

As stated before, the NAS is run as a Windows service which might need additional
configuration. In the Service window (Control Panel\All Control Panel
Items\Administrative Tools\Services) make the following changes:

Startup type: Automatic

Change the service user to a privileged Dynamics NAV user.

For increased robustness, select Restart the Service for First failure field.

See figures below for examples:

3 Configuration
The connection to the Kitchen Service is configured in the KDS NAS Setup form
