Activity 1: Alphabet Hunt
an activity for children with autism/ and learning disabilities

Equipment Needed: Large sheet of paper, markers, glue, and a children magazine
‘ivity Description
1-Have four participants sit in a circle.
‘2-Have them to use the markers to write all the letters of the alphabet in a column running down
the left side of the paper
3-One they are written all the letters; itis time for them to find them! Give them the magazine
and ask them to hunt for a picture that begin with each of the letter ( for example, a cat would
work for ¢, or rabbit would work for R). They must cut out the picture and use the glue to put it
next to the name.
This activity is intended to be examples of activities that promote visual thinking, and
communication skills. We must introduce the topic by using things that interest or motivate the
child, and encourage them to learn new things. When adapting this activity, we must be aware of
how the kids learn, what motivates them, their cognitive abilities and their ability to attend. We
may also to be aware that a kid may communicate differently and not use speech, so we may
need to provide assistance such as pictures, cards, or sign,
