Activity: Fear In A Hat
Source: James Neil (September 3rd, 2004)
Equipment Needed: cup, paper, pencil/pen
Activity Description:
1. Have each participant finish this sentence In this trip group program, I am most afraid that
2. Have each participant place their paper in a cup
3. Invite each person to take a piece of paper out of the cup
4. Have the participant read aloud the fear and explain why this person may feel this way or is
afraid of this situation
5. Once all the fears are read, discuss what people felt and noticed

Leadership Considerations:
1. For individuals with Anxiety and Depression they often feel uneasy or untrusting so keeping the
fears anonymous are a good way to help ease their fears and allow for them to share more. This
activity will provide a sense of understanding. Depression can be a result of Anxiety and trust is a
key element in overcoming Anxiety.
