CHAPTER 4

CHARTER OF RIGHTS PROJECT

Select a song that has as its main theme an issue pertaining to one of our
fundamental freedoms:
Freedom of conscience & religion
Freedom of thought, belief, opinion, and expression,
including freedom of the press and other media of
communication.
Freedom of peaceful assembly
Freedom of association
(Remember these freedoms are not absolute).
Design eight to ten slides using power point to illustrate the concerns of these
freedoms . The music selection should be no more then two to three minutes long
that will accompany the power point.
Content of Slides should outline
1. The Canadian Charter of Rights and the main
sections of the Charter,
2. Define rights & freedoms,
3. List the four fundamental freedoms,
4. An explanation of how this song relates to our
fundamental freedoms & why you chose this
specific song. (how it is meaningful to you)
5. What happens to a society that does not respect
our fundamental freedoms & rights.
6. Provide a recent case that has been in the news
due to a situation or incident that challenges the
application of the Charter of Rights in Canada;
identify the issue, which right or freedom is being
questioned, the legal course undertaken & the
present outcome or its status. Provide the ruling or
decision by judge if available. Do you agree or
disagree with issue being identified as a denial of

the application of a right or freedom in Canada,


explain your point of view.

Deadline: Monday, March 26th ,2012
Value: 40 marks
Provided Library Time: Monday, March 19th, Tuesday, March 20th ,Thursday, March
22nd . Students will be expected to finish project on their own time, either at lunch
or for homework if they are not able to complete the project during the designated
classes in the library. Students will be asked to show their power point to their
classmates.
Instructions for saving music & power point slide on Project on the Canadian
Charter of Rights.:
Make a folder with students name
Save power point file & music file to the same folder.
When in Power Point, select Insert, select sound, Sound from file, include sound
file , save music on a MP3 file.
