To Whom It May Concern:

It was a pleasure having Ashley Griffith observe my English classes during the fall semester of
2016. Ashley was very enthusiastic and excited to not only observe, but to participate as often as
possible. During her tenure with me she observed classes, graded papers, created mini lessons,
and led many class discussions. The students enjoyed her presence and warmed up to her
quickly.
One of the lessons Ashley taught was called Dialogue versus Discussion where she and the
students established discussion guidelines and she had the seniors answer questions about the
novel The Catcher in the Rye. This was a very creative way to involve all the students in the
discussion since she alternated them in six seats and allowed for a seventh seat, a hot seat. By
the end of the period, all students had participated in a lively discussion. It was evident that one
objective in Ashleys lesson was to involve all students and this format permitted total inclusion.
Another lesson Ashley created for the seniors was a fun way to analyze the characters in The
Catcher in the Rye. She held a talk show where students had to guess the character from the
novel asking only three questions. Students were competitive and therefore involved in the
analysis which resulted in greater student engagement. This lesson, along with the others that
Ashley taught, indicated to me her commitment to involve all students regardless of whether or
not they had read the literature or would simply be too shy to participate otherwise. Ashley
recognizes the importance of a captive audience because learning occurs only when students are
involved.
Ashley has the passion needed to be successful as an educator. She recognizes the significance
of making sure all students are involved in the learning process. Her enthusiasm, creativity, and
sheer love for teaching is evident. She relates well to the students, enjoys creating lessons, and is
excited to be an educator; that is a winning combination. I highly recommend Ashley Griffith
and wish her well as she prepares to begin her teaching career.
Sincerely,
