MUSE 376 / Choral Methods II

Ch. 21 Directing the Choral Music Program

Kenneth H. Phillips

2016

This chapter helped me understand how to plan for success in a music classroom. I found

this section to relate well with my life right now because I am student teaching in the fall.

There are many struggles that arise while individuals are student teaching. This chapter dives

into a few of these issues and makes me aware of what could happen while I am in front of

students. I must remember that I am in a professional position. I have to always hold myself

to a high standard and act in a way as if someone is always watching. I look forward to using

my enthusiasm in the classroom to get all of my students engaged in the learning process.

I want to understand the young minds in my classroom. An individual that is describe to

have a type A personality is usually not as relaxed as those who are type B. Type A

personalities are typically associated with aggression, competition, ambition, impatience and

denial of failure. In addition, type A individuals often feel that they are pressured by others

or life in general. There is a sense of approval needed by peers and others around them. Also,

this person may be involved in a multitude of activities. I will see many different students

within my classroom. Each will have a different personality than the person sitting next to

them. Knowing these characteristics will better help me understand my students.
