"Until recently, until the dawn of the digital age, the replacement of human
beingsbymachineswasonlyatalevelwherewhatwasroutineandrepetitive.
But the emergence of artificial intelligence, is now increasingly replacing the
humanbeingsathigherlevelsofaccuracies.
"So while the job market is open up in the highly sophisticated levels of
intellectualpower,perhapsthejobmarketisclosingdownatlevelswherethe
workisroutineandratherworkwhereartificialintelligencecantakesomeplace
ofthehumanbeings,"RangarajanwhoisalsochancellorofIFHEsaid.
He said in the early stages of the industrial revolution, the machines were
assisting the human beings. Whereas, now, increasingly the machines are
replacinghumanbeings.
"We,inIndia,maynotstillbethere.Wehavestillsomewaytogo.Butsooner
orlaterastagecanbereachednotonlyinIndia,elsewhereintheworldhowto
cope up with the increasing number of machines which replaces the work of
humanswillhavetobehandled,"heopined.
Expressing concern about the quality of higher education in India, the former
Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister said as per reports on Engineering
colleges, nearly 70 per cent of the people come out of the institutions are not
equippedwithnecessaryskills.
EarlierLakshmiNarayananinhiskeynoteaddresssaidfourkeysectorslikes
of DefenceAviationSpaces Research, Renewable Energy, Healthcare
PharmaBiotechnology, Information and Communication Technologies are
currentlydrivingtheglobalGDPgrowthduetolargeinvestmentsmadeinthese
fields.

The survey finds that in the short term digitisation would require skill
enhancement and adoption of new skills but it won't hit the jobs too much
globally."Intheshortterm,thefutureofworkisbright.Mostemployersexpect
automation and the adjustment to digitization will bring a net gain for
employment. Eightythree per cent intend to maintain or increase their
headcount and upskill their people in the next two years. Only 12 per cent of
employers plan to decrease headcount as a result of automation," the survey
says.

Small and midsized banks are recruiting mostly from tier2 and tier3 cities,

LakshmiVilasBank(LVB)planstohire500peoplein2017.Whilearound300
400peoplewillbehiredattheentrylevel,theremainingwillbeforvariousother

WorldEconomicForum(WEF).
"Morethan90percentofemployersexpecttheirorganisationtobeimpacted
bydigitisationinthenexttwoyears,"itsaid.
On the other hand, employers in Italy, Guatemala and Peru are the most
optimisticabouttheimpactofautomationonjobs.

Itnotedthattechnologywouldreplacebothcognitiveandmanualroutinetasks
sopeoplecantakeonnonroutinetasksandmorefulfillingroles.
Forpeople,employabilitytheabilitytogainandmaintainadesiredjobno
longerdependsonwhatyoualreadyknow,butonwhatyouarelikelytolearn.
"InthisSkillsRevolution,learnabilitythedesireandabilitytolearnnewskills
to stay relevant and remain employable will be the great equaliser," said
JonasPrising,ManpowerGroupChairman&CEO.
"It'stimetotakeimmediateactiontoupskillandreskillemployeestoaddress
thegapsbetweentheHavesandtheHaveNotsthosethathavetherightskills
andthosethatareatriskofbeingleftbehind,"Prisingsaidfurther.
Globally,thereportsaidintheshortterm,thefutureofworkisbrightasmost
employersexpectautomationandtheadjustmenttodigitisationwillbringanet
gainforemployment.
"Eightythree per cent intend to maintain or increase their head count and up
skilltheirpeoplein the next two years. Only 12 per cent of employersplanto
decreaseheadcountasaresultofautomation,"thereportsaid.
