The people of Srinagar (Garhwal) are generally nice . They are hardworking ,honest
and shy . Coming to the physical appearance , they generally are stout and short
heighted . What makes people living here special is their willingness to live fully
inspite of the less developed mountaineous terrain . you will always find them full
of enthusiasm . These people are really tough and this is one of the reason why they
make a large contribution to armed forces . The 6 KUMOUN regiment is also
located in Srinagar and its soldiers have show exceptional bravery whenever they
needed to stand for the nation.
In Srinagar , culture of different places can be seen interwoven and intermixed with
each other . People of the nearby villages across this valley are crucial ingredients
too. These people , since ancient time , have inhabitated the region . People from
DANG ,SUMARI ,KHOLA ,SUMANA etc. have a major influence on Srinagar.
Srinagars social , cultural and administrative aspects are much driven by the
people settled in Srinagar from these outskirting villages . Talking about the nearby
villages, the valley stereotypes prevail there too.
People living in the hills are generally termed as PAHADIs . The Indian caste
system prevails in Srinagar too . people of various caste and creed live here . The
Hindus form the majority of the population followed by Sikhs , Muslims , Christians
and a few other tribes . Across the Hindu society here , Brahmins and Kshatriya are
the large constituents. A typical Srinagari flavoured Garhwali language is a
prominent feature of the valley . The SRINAGARI type of Garhwali is little poetic
and satire in its nature. It is often said that Srinagari is a critiques language .
Interesting thing to learn is Srinagar and people of Srinagar are a nice blend of
overlapped tmes , history and cultures , all living with unity and harmony .
Historically it has remained a capital, so even today, people here have that feudal
spirit and knack to take up and handle such intellectual activities.
Secondly, Srinagar has been an spiritual and pilgrimage centre and acts as a route
to Badrinath-Kedarnath. Therefore, we find a good number of places and people in
and around Srinagar. Coming back to the people, at the same time people here are
simple yet learned and content.
