Extended Learning Experience

Outside of the classroom, I have gained experience through being an FFA

member and volunteering at a local hospital. In FFA I have successfully raised 3 pigs and

1 goat, this includes buying feed, supplies, cleaning pens regularly and exercising the

animals to achieve a show standard. Raising these animals has taught me how to care for

something that completely relies on me, also I have learned financial responsibility by

having to use my own money for feed, supplements and shavings.

Whilst in high school I volunteered at Memorial Hermann Hospital several times

a week through the summer. I bounced around between many departments, such as the

ER, sterile processing, and womens services. I interacted with patients, staff, and visitors

constantly meeting new people. As a normally reserved person, the summers at the

hospital taught me to speak up, to ask questions when I didnt understand, and to be

comfortable in new situations.
