Even though heart disease is not a major cause of death in teens, it is still the most common

cause of death among adults in the United States. It is important that preventative steps be taken
early in life to prevent heart diseases from developing in the future. Some of the risk factors that
can be controlled early in life are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, and
physical inactivity ( Heart). It is also important that teens be educated about cardiovascular
health, since health and awareness are closely tied together. To maintain good health and avoid
preventable disease throughout their lives, children must acquire knowledge about health risks
and acquire the skills that are needed to avoid or reduce those risks ( Williams, 160). It can be
hard for teens to be educated about this topic, since many see it as an issue for the older
generation but it is important to take steps now to prevent health problems in the future.
