Original Contemporary Poem

They that have pow'r to hurt but stay alone,

That do not do the thing they most do boast,
Who changing others are themselves like stone,
Unmoved, frozen, and not temptations host,
The rightful holders of divine caress,
Who receive natures riches without fret.
They are the possessors of their success;
Others subservient to their dark threat.
The childs treat can make the child glad,
Though to itself it only sells and buys.
But if that treat turns with sourness bad,
The plainest beet rises and trumps its highs.
For sweetest things turn sourest by their deeds;
Treats that spoil taste far worse than beets.
