Why Reading is So Important?

ways to achieve one thing.
Communication is the most
important tool which can be
transmitted through reading.
As you communicate through
reading, you understand more,
and thus you can
communicate better with
people. When reading, youre
in full silence because reading The classic story of Romeo and Juliet, set in a modern-day city
connects directly to your of Verona. The Montagues and Capulets are two feuding families,
brain. Reading exposes you to whose children meet and fall in love. They must hide their love from the
a world of imagination, world because they know that their parents will not allow them to be

At our school, we celebrated January's value of the month, cooperation. This value makes us reflect
and see its impact in our lives. As a matter of fact, it is a tool needed in life as it impulses to have a relation
with people and work together for the same end. Cooperation eradicates self-concern establishing a road to
deliberating common goals.

` For understanding how people see this value, an interview was made to students from 8th grade to
th
12 in order to introduce their point of view on the importance of cooperation. The students participating
were: Dalianys Santos (8th), Julio Arango (9th), Daymis Delgado (10th), Juan A. Coln (11th) and Gustavo
Calderon (12th). Doing a summary of their opinion, all affirmed that cooperation explains how we can make
much more and accomplish tasks quicker when working together. The fact is that people use cooperation for
getting involved with each other, help each other, and go through difficult situations doing the job easier.
Cooperation helps to get goals done and achieve objectives.
As a curios fact, cooperation is a value that compares to ants. Ants work together to get food and
build their homes. They use their unique way to communicate and simply work for the cause. Each of them
is counted as important pieces to get a job done. By working together and focusing on the well been of the
whole hive and not on their selves, they make a change not for only one, but for all ants. We have to learn to
work like them, not depending completely on the other individual, but helping on the road. As the path
keeps, we have to move forward together because two or more minds are better than one.

Ricardo Gabriel Rosa Marcano- President

Emphisms Newss president is Ricardo, a senior student of our school. Ricardo was born on June
23, 1999, and actually lives in Certenejas, Cidra. In his free time, he plays piano, and has dedicated most of
his time improving his skills. Ricardo stands out in his studies, arts, math, and organization. Since he was a
kid, he has always been very responsible with his school work and agenda, making him be a successful man.
He has traveled twice to represent Puerto Rico in FCCLA STAR Events National Competitions, and both
times have won gold medals. Added to this, he also won the State First Vice-president stand on the same
organization. Another one of Ricardos best achievements is that he scored on the Top 250 best scores of the
College Board in Puerto Rico. In addition, Ricardo told us that his favorite quote is from Abraham Lincoln;
No man has a good enough memory to make a successful liar. Something funny about him is that he
usually finds nothing funny at all.

Natalia Almedina Centeno- Vice-president

Natalia is our charming vice-president. She was born on a historic day for our country, September
23, 1999, and she lives in Rincn, Cidra. Natalia is a girl that is always willing to help others and is very
versatile, she can really make great things out of nothing. Her hobby is to be voluntary in anything that she
can, and she stands out in public interactions. Besides this, Natalia is a great singer, dancer, and Girl Scout,
and her best achievements are her Medallas Escutistas. Our vice-president is moved by Johann Vera, with
the quote Si las oportunidades no llegan a tu puerta, construye esa puerta, and we can really say and mean
that our Natalia is always building opportunities and finding new doors to open and discover new things.
Something funny about this little adventurer is her fabulous hair, which makes her unique and incomparable.

Namyr Colon Morales- Secretary

The newspapers secretary is Namyr, who lives in Certenejas, Cidra, and was born in September 20,
2000. There are a lot of positive things that can be said about Namyr, because she is very special. Namyr,
besides being a great person, is a great model. She usually does it as a hobby, but spends most of her time on
a runway. She stands out in communications, she is great with public, socializing, and working with people.
Some of Namyrs great achievements are her gold medal at the FCCLA STAR Events National Competition
and her title as Miss Bellas Artes. We all can agree in something, and it is that Namyr has the funniest laugh,
she is always laughing and making everyone laugh with her.

Alanis Corts Pizarro- Treasurer

Alanis is the smallest one in the committee, but with a big heart that covers for all. She is the
treasurer of the newspaper and lives in Certenejas, Cidra. Alanis was born in September 12, 2000. Alanis
likes to cooperate a lot, she is very energetic and charismatic. Her hobby is to study, but she stands out in
singing and dancing. Her greatest achievement is being a student of the Program of Estudiantes Talentosos
at UPR Cayey, in which students overtake some credits that theyll need when they get to College. Alanis
belongs to the Confra group of the school, and shell always be available for anyone. She made that very
clear when she mentioned Proverbs 4:23 being her favorite quote.

Our lovely science dedication in this new edition of our newspaper is about a great feeling that is
constantly invading us. Not about relationships only, but also in different kinds of love. Neurochemicals are
the responsible of interact with feelings and liberate them as the same manifestation occurs in the interaction
with other personas that will feel love or affect to them! Curiously? Yes!

According to the ASDN and Fisher, first attraction, -or first "sparks"- in the air followed by falling in
love are caused by combination of three neurochemicals: phenylethylamine, norepinephrine and dopamine.
Later stages of long relationships are guiding by another two: oxytocin and serotonin. (ASDN). Wall have
chemical families associated with dopamine, serotonin, testosterone, and estrogen. People choose partners
with chemicals that complement their own. For example, a person with a high amount of estrogen may be
attracted to a high-testosterone type. (Fisher).

What you have been explored during a love interaction in your life? Psychologists say that
generations have a big influence in our nowadays feelings and love skills. We get from our parents the sense
of perceive if that person corresponds to us and if they satisfy what are we looking for. The combination of
chemical reactions can influence in the hour of took a decision, or up to, accept the consequences that they
affront.

'Moana'

The article Mathematicians bring ocean to life for Disney's 'Moana' explains how mathematics had to
come into the production and animation of the Disney movie, "Moana". This movie has a lot of ocean areas
and waves as well; this is where the mathematicians had to come. To animate these you need to make
equations and how much code can be put into these animations to look great. If this process isn't done, the
animation would have become, choppy, too big and too small.

El 15 de enero de cada ao, se conmemora oficialmente el natalicio del Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Este activista dedic gran parte de su vida a la lucha por la igualdad de los derechos civiles, polticos y
econmicos de la poblacin afroamericana bajo el estandarte de la no violencia. En el ao 1963, delante del
monumento Abraham Lincoln en Washington DC, pronunci uno de los discursos ms recordados en la
historia mundial titulado I have a Dream. Posteriormente, fue galardonado con el Premio Nobel de la Paz.
Por todas estas razones, Martin Luther King merece ser recordado, y para ello, los estudiantes de noveno
grado tuvieron la oportunidad de inspirarse en el discurso I have a Dream y expusieron de una forma
creativa y literaria, cul es su sueo. A continuacin, presentamos el escrito de la estudiante Yariann
Camacho Rosario.

Sueo
Al igual que el Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. yo tambin tengo un sueo. Mi sueo lo dedico a todas
aquellas familias puertorriqueas, que por razones ajenas a su voluntad, han tenido que partir a tierras
lejanas. De igual forma, lo dedico a todos los soadores porque soar va mucho ms all de un estado de
letargo; soar es un estado del corazn.
A mis amados puertorriqueos que viven en el exilio quiero decirles que yo tengo un sueoSueo
que algn da puedan abordar el avin del regreso para que sus pies besen el suelo que los vio nacer. Del
mismo modo, sueo con tener una familia e hijos. Anhelo verlos crecer, pero no en cualquier pas; sino en
el que reine la paz y el amor. Quiero que crezcan en un lugar en el que no existan muros en las fronteras
para que caminen libremente hacia el destino anhelado. Sueo con transformar los medios de comunicacin

y que cuando cada uno de nosotros encendamos los televisores o radios, solo escuchemos mensajes
esperanzadores. Mi sueo va mucho ms all de sus hijos y los que en un futuro quisiera tener porque sueo
con todos los nios alrededor del mundo. Deseo que en sus mesas nunca falte el alimento, pero sobretodo,
que puedan alimentarse con el pan de la enseanza. Sueo con nuestro medio ambiente. Anhelo que sea uno
en el que se respire aire puro y en donde se construyan hogares de materiales reusables como el amor, la
empata y el respeto. Propongo que en cada hogar se siembre un arbusto enorme y que all se hagan las
reuniones familiares. Basta ya de reunirnos en families equipados con televisores de 60 pulgadas y
juegos electrnicos porque esto solo genera un ambiente de insensibilidad y quiebra la unin familiar. Sueo
que el ser humano deje de juzgar a su hermano porque todos dentro de nuestra imperfeccin somos seres
perfectos creados por Dios.
Finalmente, sueo que juntos me ayuden a convertir este sueo en realidad. Yo tengo un sueo y en
l tengo fe y descansa mi esperanza I HAVE A DREAM

Oscar Lpez Rivera, muchos no conocemos su pasado y lo colocamos como el hroe de la historia.
No todos sabemos a qu ideologa poltica perteneca. Fue veterano en la Guerra de Vietnam defendiendo la
nacin americana. Cuando vuelve de la guerra de Vietnam se integr a la lucha de los valores y los derechos
de los puertorriqueos. Oscar Lpez fundo Fuerzas Armadas de Liberacin Nacional (FALN) en 1974 con
Filiberto Ojeda, este estuvo compuesto mayormente por movimientos independistas. El revolucionario
armado (MIRA) y los comandos armados de la liberacin (CAL). El propsito de la (FALN) era implantar el
miedo dentro de los Estados Unidos. El deseaba que el norteamericano repudiara a los puertorriqueos y nos
otorgaran la independencia, este repudio no funciono para que nos otorgaran la independencia. Oscar Lpez
ayudo a conmemorar la insurreccin del 1950, realizando 5 atentados con dinamistas contra oficinas de
bancos y corporaciones estadunidenses en Nueva York. A veces los coordinaban los macheteros (EPB)
ejrcito popular boricua en donde incluan varios ataques en Puerto Rico. Oscar Lpez fue arrestado junto a
su esposa y 11 miembros ms, estos fueron acusados por conspiracin hacia los Estados Unidos. Ahora qu
sabes la historia de Oscar Lpez lo consideras un hroe?

Entrevista al Presidente y Vice Presidente del Comit

"Estos jvenes de hoy da no se interesan por nada, solo estn inmersos en la tecnologa; en esos
benditos aparatitos..." Desde siempre hemos escuchado muchos comentarios negativos sobre la juventud. En
cualquier lugar hay alguna persona que se queja sobre los jvenes y reclaman que "lo nico que saben hacer
es hablar por 'la maquinita esa', escribir 'mensajitos' y ponerse los 'cablecitos' esos en los odos para
escuchar msica." Ocasionalmente, se dice que no prestan atencin a su alrededor, que no leen ni ven
noticias. En fin, que no hacen nada para mejorar o salir de la zona cmoda. Claro que esto es una
generalizacin y es una falta de respeto que se piense que no hay un futuro prometedor con la generacin de
jvenes que posee una gran cantidad de talentos. Entre estos, la capacidad de concentracin; al punto de
poder estudiar con el televisor prendido o escuchando msica. Hay jvenes emprendedores, capaces y
preocupados por la humanidad, el ambiente y en el bienestar de los dems. Existe en ellos una motivacin y
una energa positiva que contagia a los dems que los rodea. En nuestra escuela, somos de ese tipo de
jvenes que desea cambiar el mundo, hacer de l un lugar mejor con ideas innovadoras. Te presentar un
grupo de jvenes que tuvieron la iniciativa de exponer sus ideas, convertirlas en planes y tomar accin. Este
grupo de jvenes constituyen el Comit Estudiantil de nuestra escuela. S, hay un comit! No lo sabas?
Pues sigue leyendo y obtendrs ms informacin. Entrevist al Presidente y a la Vicepresidenta del comit
sobre esta iniciativa, Christian Ramos del dcimo grado y Yariann Camacho de noveno grado y me dijeron
lo siguiente.
Cmo surgi la idea?
("En la guagua escolar nos vamos Evyanmarie, Nelson, Christian, y yo Yariann). La idea surgi en la
guagua escolar que nos recoge por la tarde. Era un Casual Day y comenzamos a hablar sobre que deberan
hacer para mejorar la escuela. Evyanmarie sugiri que se hicieran ms Casual Days y as generar ms dinero
(para los gastos para renovar la escuela en diferentes aspectos). De ah sali el comentario de que deberan
hacer una junta estudiantil - que luego se cambi a comit- para organizar estas sugerencias." dijo la
vicepresidenta.
Qu los motiv a crear un comit estudiantil?
Nos motiv la falta de compromiso de los estudiantes para con las actividades. Tambin entendimos
que queramos tener voz y voto en la toma de decisiones en la escuela que afecten a los estudiantes
directamente. ambos expresaron.
Cules son los propsitos especficos de ste?
El propsito es la unificacin de la escuela ya que los estudiantes de diferentes grados no comparten
lo suficiente entre ellos." asegur el presidente.

Cul es la visin del comit?

"La visin del comit es integrar los grados en las diferentes actividades escolares." explic Yariann.

Para ser parte del comit debes cumplir con los siguientes requisitos:
"El estudiante tiene que poseer un promedio de 3.0 puntos o ms. El estudiante demuestra ser responsable,
se ausenta pocas veces o ninguna. Es capaz de comunicarse ante un pblico, tiene una conducta ejemplar y
manifiesta destrezas de liderazgo." dijo Christian.
Cules son sus metas a corto y a largo plazo?
"Los planes no estn asignados, queremos ir paso a paso. Damos ideas y si las aceptan, de ah
partimos. Por ejemplo, a corto plazo, queremos hacer un recogido de basura en la escuela. A largo plazo,
hacer un compartir entre los estudiantes, alquilar casas de brinco, popcorn y que tengan un da de juegos
todos los estudiantes." declararon ambos.
Qu personal de la facultad escolar colabora con ustedes?
"Los maestros que nos estn ayudando a desarrollar el comit son por el momento; Prof. Jannette Rodrguez,
Dr. Debra Ann-Zumaeta, Prof. Melissa Ramos, y la Prof. Jackeline Rodrguez. Para este semestre esperamos
la integracin de la Prof. Melba Passapera. En adicin, contamos con el apoyo de algunos maestros del nivel
intermedio." Expres el presidente y vicepresidente del comit.
Increble, verdad? Pues eso no es todo. Tambin el comit se asegur de que cada grupo fuera
escuchado. Sabes cmo lo hicieron? Pues djame contarte. Pasaron por los salones de cuarto a duodcimo
grado e informaron a los estudiantes. Cada grupo estableci dos representantes de su grado para que se
encarguen de notificar al comit sobre las preocupaciones y sugerencias de los alumnos. En los grupos de
kindergarten a tercer grado las maestras son las que representan a sus grupos. Conlleva trabajo fuerte para
poder lograr todo esto y todava falta... Sin duda alguna, con el apoyo de cada uno de los estudiantes y
maestros, podrn lograrlo y seguirn sorprendindolos con sus ideas y habilidades. Sigan adelante y mucho
xito!

En diciembre del 2016, nuestra escuela compiti en Ajedrez en el torneo interamericano.

Competimos contra las escuelas de la regin de Caguas en la Casa de Ajedrez de Caguas, Puerto Rico. Los
estudiantes de nuestra escuela competieran y lucharan por nuestros logros en este torneo no nos
decepcionaran. Este logro fue un paso significativo para nuestra escuela en el ao escolar. Los siguientes
datos son lugares de nuestros compaeros.
En este torneo el nivel 4to-6to nos trajo un primer lugar. Los niveles 7mo-9no y 10mo-12mo lograron dos
segundos lugares. Este semestre se estar celebrando el torneo individual en dicho deporte. Nuestras metas
de este ao se enfocan en mantener nuestra posicin en primer lugar y en los torneos interamericanos y en el
de Loiza.
Tambin, nuestra escuela estar representad de diferentes disciplinas deportivas, las cuales son:
baloncesto, tenis de campo, brinca cuica, voleibol de playa y baln pie. Espero que este ao estemos ms
preparados para el primer lugar y enorgullecer a nuestra escuela. Ante los momentos difciles que confronta
Puerto Rico es importante siempre luchar por los logros de uno. Recuerden: como equipo y escuela nunca
seremos vencidos.
