(2) Attempt any four out of remaining six questions, (3) Assume suitable data if necessary (4) Figures to the right indicate full marks 1. Explain any four -— 20 (a) Self closure and force closure. (b) Law of Gearing. (c) Chordal action in Chains. (a) Kennedy's Theorem. (e) Peaucellier’s Mechanism. 2. (a) The link lengths of a quadric cycle chain are /,= 10cm, /,=20cm,,=30cm 6 and /, = 40 cm. Find all the inversions. (b) The mechanism shown in the figure 1, the varios links lengths are OA=100 mm, 14 AB =350 mm, BC = 170 mm, BD = CD = 140mm, OD = 400 mm, CE = 350 mm and < DOA = 60°. Locate all the Instantenous centres. If the slider E moves up with velocity of 5 m/s. determine the speed of rotation of the crank OA. Fig) 3, (a) An Andrew variable stroke engine mechanism is shown in the figure 2. 16 The crank OA rotates at 100 r.p.m. find (i) The linear acceleration of slider D. (ii) The angular acceleration of links AC, BC and CD. Fig. (2) (All dimensions are in mm) (b) Show all directions of Corioll’s component of acceleration. 4 [TURN OVER Con.:3792-GN-5474-12. 2 4. (a) Derive an expression for maximum efficiency of Helical gear pair in mesh at any instant. (b) Ahorizontal double acting steam engine has cylinder diameter 220 mm, length of stroke 360 mm and runs at 240 r.p.m. The length of connecting rod is 720 mm. The mass of the reciprocating part is 100 kg. Steam is admitted at a pressure of 6 bar gauge and cut off takes place at 7th of the stroke. After this, expansion takes place according to the law pV=constant. The exhaustiis at a pressure of ~ 0.80 bar gauge. Determine the torque exerted on the crank shaft when crank has turned through 75° from inner dead centre. Neglect the effect of clearance and assume atmospheric pressure as 1 bar. 5.
