Dance Observations

I attended a dance rehearsal on 10/1/13 for the Fredonia dance assembles.

There were 6 female dancer present, veering In ages. They worked together in a
cohesive unit. They worked together like a team, never like competitors. They spoke
together in very friendly terms. The dancers and choreographer respected each
other but had a very relaxed repor.

The communication between dancers and choreographer was incredible. Helen was
very clear on what she wanted the dance to look and feel like. She even showed the
girls picture of where she imagined the dance to be located. She made it very clear
what she expected from the dancers as well.

Chorographer would often make a comment or correction. The dancers knew that
Corrections were only meant to help, never to be rude. Once these corrections were
given, the dancers quickly tried to fix there mistakes. They would practice the
correction with the chorographer to make sure they got it right. If they couldnt get
the move right the first time, they did it over and over until they could. Other
dancers also made corrections. If a dancer noticed something was wrong, she would
bring it up and the other dancers would fix their mistakes.

Although the combination was repetitive, it was very difficult. The

chorography required lots of stamina and technique. However the dancers made it
look easy. The general mood was relaxed but focused. They laughed a lot but they
were still able to focus on the dance. This was not what I accepted to see at all. I
imagined it to be much stricter. I thought there would be no talking from the
dancers, and the chorographer would be yelling at them.

Although I Really enjoyed my time in the rehearsal, I dont think I would do

the Dance Ensemble. Not only do you have to be an excellent Dancer, but you have
to be very dedicated. I dont think I could devote myself to practicing.
