Recloser and Fuse-Link Coordination
‘The following comments on coordination principles and ratings will serve as references also for other
reoloser applications covered in this manual.
ER COORDINATION PRINCIPLES:
‘Automatic circuit reclosers are the overcurrent protective
‘evices most often used to “give every fault a chance to
be tomporary: as stated undor "Coordination Basics” at
the beginning of Section 3. For proper application of
reclosers on disiribution system, ine following basic
‘coordination principles must be observed
{The load- side device must cisar a permanent or tampo-
rary fault before the source-side device Interrupts the
‘rcult (luse link) or operates to lockout reclose)
2. Outages caused by permanent faults must be restricted
to the smallost section ofthe systom
These principles primarily influence the selection of
‘operating curves and sequences of bath source-side and
load-side devices, and the general location of these de-
vioo30n ihe distribution syetem The placement and num=
ber of devices fo restrict outagos tothe smallest section
‘of the system” are determined by individual ulily arac-
tice, andthe recommendations and examplesin thie man-
tual represent only a cross-section of accepted practices.
CLOSER RATINGS
Fecloser ratings Include nominal voltage, impulse with
stand voltage (BIL), maximum continuous current, tri>-
Collcurren, minimurn trip current. and interrupting ourrent
In Tables 19A3,20A3, and 213, which list typical ratings,
reclosers are grouped for convenience into three major
Calogories: single-phase hydraulically controled, three
phase hydraulically controlled, and three-phase eloctron-
‘cally controlled. The interrupting medium olor vacuum,
'sindieated for each closer
Please note that "Recloser Type" designations (H, 4H,
vai. ete Jn both tables and text relate to the products of
MoGraw-Edison Power Systems and are not universal
industry terms. This departure from the generic approach
Used throughout most ef the manual is done to facitate
references to recloser families and ratings in discussing
applications. and the reader is encouraged to investigate
‘ler possible sources. Units designed specifically for
padmounted application are so indicated inthe table, al.
‘others are commonly relerred to as overhead-type but
