USE OF TIME-CURRENT CURVES
WITH ADJUSTMENTS
Coordination between a revoser and fuse links can be
SGhieved by using methodstesed on time-current curves.

COORDINATION WITHSOURCE-SIDE
FUSE LINKS
Fuse inks on the sourcesideo! the transformer generally
Drotect the system from a tansformer fault and protect
the transformer from a fault a te secondary bus. This
fusing arrangement is shown in Figure 143. The auto-
matic clrcut recloser (ACR) must be selected to coordi-
rate withthe source-side ise link so that the fuse does
not interrupt the cirout fr ary fault current on the load
de of the recloser. The cumulative heating effect of te
recloser operations must beless than the damage charac:

‘euve that dentiies the damage or fatigue point of tre
{se link The recloser's moaiied delayed curve must be
faster than the souree-side fuse s minimam-molt curve,
‘Time-current curves are used to coordinate the
secondary-side recioser wih the source-side fuse link,
Uullzing the following rate:
Fr the maximum availabe ult current atthe recloser
location, the minimum melting time ofthe fuse link on the
transformers source-side must be greater than the aver-
‘age cloaring time of the recoser s delayed curve, mult
Dlied by a specitic factor The multiplying factors (°K’
factors) for various reciosing intervals and operating se-
‘quences are listed in Table 2283,
‘Since the fuse is located on the high-voltage side and
the recloser on the low.voltape side of the transformer, 2
comparison ofthe time-curent characteristics of the fuse
and recioser willrequire that ether the fuse or the recloser
‘curves be shifted horizontaly on the current axis tallow
forthe transtormer turns ratio. Since the fuse size iedeter
mined by the transformer sta, ts usually easier lo shift
the fuse curve and compare it to the diferent recloser
curves available,
