This cartridge was used in a modified Martini Henry rifle for the purpose of projecting a line.

I believe the
cartridge to be based on the American .45-70. The headstamp would suggest that they were made by Kynoch.
The mouth of the case is roll crimped with a waxed cardboard seal. Peter Labbett mentions this cartridge in his
book on British military cartridges and suggests that it was used during WWI.
