Flexi WCDMA BTS Quick Guide This guide can be used as quick reference for Nokia Flexi WCDMA BTS installation. Nokia Flexi WCDMA BTS is a 3G macro BTS site solution. It consists of one System Module with a transmission sub-module, an optional System Extension Module, and up to three RF Modules. It can be installed stacked on the floor, or mounted on the wall or on the pole. This quick guide is for basic stand-alone installation only. For other installation options, see user manuals. Always switch off the laser before detaching the optical fibre from the connector. Z\ caution Incorrect cables and seals may not provide secured weather protection. In outdoor installations, including the outdoor cabinet, use only tested IP55 class outdoor cables with seals provided by Nokia. This is also recommended for indoor installations. Electrostatic discharge (ESD) may damage the modules. Wear an ESD wrist strap or use a corresponding method when handling the modules. The rear stopper is fragile. Fix the two external cable entries with four screws. (Do not install the System Module cable entries yet). 4) Grounding the BTS Grounding principle "ables Ground the plinth to the site main ground. Connect the wrist strap. Install the first module. RONS Connect the grounding cable to the module front panel. Adapter mechanics NOTE: 1, Check the clearances around the plinth, 2. Tum the rear stopper. 3. Place the plinth on the floor, grounding points facing forward. 4. Bolt on the floor with 4 bolts, 12 mm in diameter. Adapter mechanics brackets are installed on the plinth in wall and pole installations. 1. Fix the upper bracket on plinth with 3 screws. Secure the screws with glue. 2. Fix the lower bracket on plinth with 3 screws, do not tighten yet. Secure the screws with glue. When the screws are left loose at this point, it allows the plinth to move slightly and prevents it to get twisted in the installation phase. 1. Mark screw locations according to the holes in adapter mechanics and drill holes. 2. Fix the mounting screws on the wall and mount the plinth 3. Tighten the upper mounting screws. 4. Insert the lower mounting screws. 5. Tighten the lower mounting screws. 6. Tighten the adapter mechanics screws. 7. Ground the plinth. See section 4 for instructions. Tip: It is recommended to install the plinth with the front panel facing right & Installing the plinth (continued) Plinth on the pole se 1, Fix the upper bracket on the pole and attach the mounting screws, The minimum diameter of the pole is 60 mm and maximum 300 mm, Xn Fix one half of the lower bracket on the plinth. Lift the plinth on the pole. @ s Tighten the mounting screws. a . Fix the second half of the lower bracket on the pole. Tighten the adapter mechanics screws. Remove the power connector IP shield. 3. Install the cable clamp on the grounding point of the module. 4. Route the cable through the cable clamp and connector IP shield. 5. Insert the DC power cable to the connector and make sure that the polarity is correct. 6. Tighten the connection. 7. Cover the connector with the IP shield. 8. Re-insert the module core to the casing 9. Tighten the screws. 10. Install the cable entries. 11. Fix the cable entry screws. NOTE: Do not switch on the DC power feed yet. blue= Black+ Check list Transmission sub-module is properly installed (DC power cable is connected and the cable clamp is in place. (| Module core is inside the casing, and cable entries are installed. JD Installing the modules Principle of module installation — 1. Place the first module on the plinth and make sure that all four gulde pins are Inserted in the holes, 2. Allgn with module markings and push back until it stops, 3. Fix with two screws. In pole and wall installations, secure the screws with glue. 4, Place the second module. 5. Push back until It stops and allgn with module markings, 6. Fix with screws. 7. Repeat the steps above for all the modules in your configuration NOTE: In pole and wall installations, attach the fixing plate across the module casings and fix with six screws. (J Screws are glued and tightened Antenna cabling Remove the seal from the antenna connectors in the RF Module. . Push the antenna jumper cable to the RF Module antenna connector. . Route the antenna jumper cables through the cable entry. . Tighten the connector to 25 Nm 5, Repeat for all the antenna cables in the configuration NOTE: In wall and pole installations, the recommended cable routing is through the lower cable entry. Remove the internal cable entry cover. . Remove connector seals from power cable connectors in modules. . Install the connector properly to the System Module. Push the connector seal firmly in place. 5. Coil up the excess cable and push it in the RF Module cable slot. . Connect the internal power cable to the RF Module. Route the cable through the internal cable entry between System and RF Modules. Repeat for all RF Modules in the configuration. Make sure that all the connector seals are properly installed. . Remove the connector seals from the transmission sub-module connectors. Route the transmission cables through the cable entry. Pull back the connector seal to uncover the connector. . Connect the cable to the transmission sub-module. . Push the cable connector seal firmly in place. 8) Cabling (continued) 1. Remove the connector seals from the optical cable connectors in the modules. Optical cabling 2. Remove the protective cap from the optical transceiver and push it in the System Module. 3. Pull back the connector seal to uncover the connector. 4, Remove the protective plugs, clean the connectors (see user manual) and connect the cable to the System Module. Make sure it clicks into place. 5. Push the connector seal firmly in place. 6. Coil up the excess cable and push it in the RF Module cable slot. 7. Remove the protective cap from the optical transceiver and push it in the F Module. 8. Remove the protective plugs, clean the connectors and connect the optical cable to the RF Module, 9. Push the connector seal firmly in place. 10.Route the cable through the internal CAUTION: cable entry between System and RF The optical cables are factory-bended to the left. Modules. External alarm cabling 1. Remove connector seals from the external alarms connector in the System Module front panel. Store the seals for later use. 2. Push the cable connector seal firmly in place. 6. Route and connect the other end of the external alarms cable to the external alarms control box. (1 Optical transceivers and cables are cleaned. 1 Cables between the modules on the same plinth are routed via internal cable entries. Fix to cable tie points with cable ties. Cables that are routed through external cable entrles: antenna cables, external power supply, transmission cables, grounding cables, and external alarms cables. The internal power cables and optical cables are also routed through external cable entries, if the System Module and RF Module are installed on separate plinths. 10) Powering up and commissioning the BTS 1. Power up the site and check the LED and fuses. 2. Commission the BTS. 11) Front covers Front covers 1. Fix the safety catch, 2. Place the cover on top of the module front panel 3. Fix with screws. Check list (© Module front panel covers are installe« 12) Installation check list Perform these checks to make sure that the installation is complete: Delivery is complete and undamaged. Minimum clearances are met. Adapter mechanics are installed (for wall and pole installation). Plinth is installed according to the instructions. Plinth is grounded Transmission sub-module is installed according to the instructions. Power supply cable is connected. Modules are installed according to the instructions. Modules are grounded to the plinth. Module back covers are installed. Cable entries are installed. Antenna cables are connected according to the configuration. Internal power cables are connected Transmission cables are connected. Optical fibre cables are cleaned and connected. External alarm cable is connected Cables between the modules on the same plinth are routed via internal cable entries. BTS extenal cables or cables between the modules on different plinths are routed via external cable entries. Cables are tied properly. Cable connector seals are firmly in place. Unused connectors are covered with IP seals. BTS is switched on and all units are ready for commissioning. Module front covers are installed.
